Choose the Weight Management Formula Job
Weight management is not one formula category. It is a formulation platform. Brands typically name the job the SKU is built to do before they name the botanicals. Stacking white kidney bean + CLA + L-carnitine + garcinia + glucomannan because each is a “weight-loss ingredient” is not an architecture — it is an unnamed blend with no fill, stimulant, or format file.
Each module below is a formula role, not an efficacy rank and not a disease pathway. Garcinia / HCA stays an assortment botanical when the BOM already names HCA; vinegar lifestyle (ACV) and greens powders are format paths, not extra pillars.
A morning thermogenic unit, a before-meal starch-control unit, and a training-day carnitine unit are different SKUs even when the brand line shares a name. Evening or recovery briefs stay off stimulant stacks.
How a brief is built. Start with one hero that owns one job (glucomannan for satiety, white kidney bean for starch control, CLA for an oil-phase composition SKU). A second row is added only when it has a distinct role — white kidney bean + chromium is still a carb-management brief with a mineral line, not a new category. A multi-module blend (satiety + starch control + thermogenesis) is feasible when each row keeps a formula role, caffeine is totaled at the finished unit, and fill weight is allowed to change the format. Ingredient count is not a quality score. Combination formulas in a live hero system are specified on that ingredient manufacturer page when it is live.
Job: Control intake and meal satiety — not a thermogenic story.
Typical ingredients: Glucomannan, psyllium, oat β-glucan, resistant dextrin. Protein can sit beside the fiber on a powder brief.
Default format: Powder / sachet. Capsules only when the serving still fits a practical count.
Trade-off: A few hundred milligrams in one capsule is not the same SKU as a gram-level drink. Instant mucilage (psyllium) is not a clear stick (resistant dextrin).
What this changes on the PO: Serving grams, water volume, bulk density, flow, caking, and pack. Fiber physics decide format before flavor.
Job: Meal-time starch / carbohydrate management.
Typical ingredients: White kidney bean; chromium as a mineral row; mulberry leaf DNJ when the BOM targets a sucrose / α-glucosidase path.
Default format: Capsule; tablet when solids are high.
Trade-off: Bean α-amylase activity is not mulberry DNJ and not a fiber drink. Chromium does not replace a bean activity grade.
What this changes on the PO: Phaseolus vulgaris seed; ratio or AAIU + method. Extract ratio is not an activity specification.
Job: A dry-fill dietary-fat gastrointestinal concept.
Typical ingredients: Chitosan — source, degree of deacetylation, molecular weight.
Default format: Capsule.
Trade-off: Chitosan is not CLA. CLA is an oil-phase body-composition fill, not a fat-binding powder with a different name.
What this changes on the PO: Shellfish vs fungal origin, deacetylation, viscosity / particle size, crustacean allergen. Do not copy a CLA isomer line onto a chitosan COA.
Job: A catechin / chlorogenic / stimulant lifestyle unit. This is one module — not the whole weight-management line.
Typical ingredients: Green tea / EGCG; green coffee CGA; caffeine as a finished-unit total when leaf residual and added sources are combined. Capsaicinoids only when named on the BOM.
Default format: Capsule; tablet when the multi-row load needs a press.
Trade-off: Green-tea EGCG is not green-coffee CGA and not a pre-workout energy SKU. L-carnitine belongs on the exercise module unless the brief actually wants two jobs and a caffeine total.
What this changes on the PO: EGCG % + method; CGA by plant identity; destination stimulant file.
Job: Training-day energy-metabolism / body-composition lifestyle — not a stimulant thermogenic by another name.
Typical ingredients: L-carnitine salts (tartrate, fumarate, or another named salt). Acetyl-L-carnitine stays on the energy assortment.
Default format: Capsule; gram-level powder or liquid.
Trade-off: Compound weight is not L-carnitine. This unit does not inherit green-tea caffeine unless the BOM adds that module on purpose.
What this changes on the PO: Actual L-carnitine mg, unit count vs powder, moisture-aware pack.
Job: A metabolic / glucose-metabolism support row on a lifestyle supplement. Not a diabetes-treatment SKU.
Typical ingredients: Chromium (elemental mg). Cinnamon or inositol when named on the BOM. Berberine only as a destination-restricted companion — not a default slimming hero.
Default format: Capsule or tablet.
Trade-off: A mineral row is not a second white-kidney-bean activity grade. Berberine is not a fat-burner synonym.
What this changes on the PO: Salt identity and elemental yield; destination ingredient status before artwork.
Job: Fat-mass / lean-mass lifestyle positioning on the unit.
Typical ingredients: CLA as an oil-phase softgel. Protein, HMB, EAA, or creatine only when the BOM names them on a powder brief — they are not default heroes on this line.
Default format: Softgel for CLA; powder when protein is the load.
Trade-off: No oil phase, no default CLA softgel. Powdered CLA is a different sourcing path. Chitosan stays on the dry lipid job.
What this changes on the PO: Oil source, isomer method if claimed, leak / peroxide, shell.
What to Specify Before Requesting a Quote
A weight-management SKU is not one unnamed blend. After the formula job is named, it is a locked set of ingredient identity × marker or activity × dosage form × finished-unit assay × pack × destination. Two bottles that both print “green tea 500 mg” or “white kidney bean 1,000 mg” are not the same quote until those fields match.
Extract mg ≠ marker mg. Salt weight ≠ active weight. Ratio ≠ activity standardization. A greens blend is not a specification. Licensed grades are quoted only with BOM + license.

When multiple stimulant sources are combined — green tea residual caffeine, guarana, anhydrous caffeine, bitter orange / synephrine, or yohimbine — total labeled caffeine / named alkaloid exposure must be reconciled at finished-unit level and checked against destination requirements before production is scheduled.
An unnamed thermogenic or greens blend is not a specification. Density mismatch and segregation mean each printed marker must have a defined finished-product test method and acceptance criterion. Do not send “weight-loss blend 1,200 mg” or “greens blend 8 g” as the only line.
If two suppliers cannot quote against the same fields, their prices are not directly comparable. A U.S. Supplement Facts panel does not automatically travel to Canada NHP or an EU / UK claim list. If the active load is too high for one unit, change the unit count or dosage form before weakening the active specification.

Best for: White kidney bean, green tea, moderate-load L-carnitine, low-fill glucomannan, garcinia, green coffee, bitter-melon extract.
Why: Moderate-load dry extracts; bitterness stays in the shell.
Lock: HPMC vs gelatin; fill vs capsule count; glucomannan swell in the shell.
Manufacturing constraint: Dry extracts do not default into softgels.
Best for: High-solids white kidney bean, chromium, cost-per-count retail.
Why: A press carries more solids than one capsule.
Lock: Compression, coat, tablet weight.
Manufacturing constraint: Green-tea stain and bitterness remain inside a film coat.

Specify: Phaseolus vulgaris seed; ratio or AAIU + method. Extract ratio is not an activity specification. Starch-control activity is not α-glucosidase inhibition — mulberry leaf DNJ is a different botanical specification, not a hotter bean line.
Format: Capsule; tablet when solids are high.
Manufacturing note: Activity grade versus ratio changes cost and comparability. Higher solids may shift the project toward tablets.

Manufacturing note: Gram-level talk usually means two capsules or a liquid. Hygroscopic salts set moisture-aware pack and fill count before artwork.

Manufacturing note: No oil phase, no default softgel. Viscosity, leak, and oxidation sit on the quote.
Best for: Konjac fiber SKUs.
Formula job: Appetite & satiety.
Specify: Amorphophallus konjac; glucomannan %; capsule vs powder; water volume per serving on the process and label file. Glucomannan, psyllium, inulin / FOS, resistant dextrin, oat β-glucan, and green-banana resistant starch are different sourcing lines. Resistant starch ≠ resistant dextrin.
Format: Capsule (lower serving) or powder (gram-level).
Manufacturing note: Swell, caking, and swallow instructions change format. A glucomannan water-volume specification should not be carried over to a low-viscosity drink. Instant mucilage is psyllium; a clear drink is usually resistant dextrin.
Best for: Assortments that still need an HCA row.
Formula job: Assortment botanical — not a platform module.
Specify: Species (G. cambogia vs G. indica); fruit rind; HCA % + method; calcium or potassium salt vs HCA.
Format: Capsule.
Manufacturing note: Two garcinia quotes are only comparable when species, plant part, HCA basis, salt form, and test method match.

Manufacturing note: Bitterness and residual caffeine follow the same finished-unit path as green tea. A printed “CGA 45%” cannot quote three botanicals.

Specify: Powder acetic-acid equivalent vs liquid serving. Powder weight and liquid vinegar volume are not interchangeable label specifications.
Format: Gummy (low load) or liquid.
Manufacturing note: Gummy load must be calculated from the finished piece; a capsule BOM cannot simply be transferred to a cooked gummy.

Other ingredients available against a BOM
Other conventional ingredients can be scoped against a BOM, including gymnema, capsaicinoids / capsiate, potato PI-2, apple polyphenols, citrus flavonoids, green-banana resistant starch, and related ingredients. Identity, marker, method, dosage form, and destination requirements are confirmed during feasibility.
Companion and restricted-scope ingredients
Yohimbine HCl, berberine, 5-HTP, and stacked stimulant rows (guarana, anhydrous caffeine, bitter orange / synephrine) need the destination named first. Berberine and 5-HTP stay on those manufacturer pages — they are not default weight-management heroes.
MCT, inulin / FOS, protein, flaxseed, and piperine / BioPerine® (BOM + license) can sit beside a hero system when the format allows.
Black ginger locks 5,7-DMF / total PMFs on that page. Rhodiola, ashwagandha, and hops extract are adaptogen / evening files — not slimming SKUs. L-theanine is a sleep / calm specification, not a green-tea EGCG substitute. Gymnema, banaba, forskolin, fucoxanthin, and other conventional botanicals can be scoped against identity, marker, and destination.
Incoming COA is not the finished label. Two units printed “green tea 500 mg” can differ by an order of magnitude in EGCG and caffeine — so finished dual-line testing belongs on the quote.
Incoming raw-material COA. Identity (Latin name and plant part, or salt / oil / fiber identity); assay with the method on the same line; contaminants (heavy metals, pesticides, micro, residual solvents where applicable). Algae powders add metals / microcystin talk.
Finished-product testing. Printed marker (EGCG, AAIU or identity, L-carnitine, CLA, HCA, CGA, glucomannan, or the named fiber / mineral); caffeine or named alkaloid when present; weight variation; moisture on hygroscopic fills; disintegration as specified; softgel leak / peroxide on CLA.
Risk-based additional panel. Slimming finished goods: a scoped adulterant panel (sibutramine, phenolphthalein, ephedrine / undeclared stimulants) on the quote. Oxidation on oil fills. Crustacean allergen on chitosan. Heat-history re-assay on resistant starch after cook or extrusion.

Packaging follows stability risk, not aesthetics.
Moisture. Hygroscopic fibers and carnitine salts — high barrier, desiccant, controlled water activity; alu-alu on humid lanes. See Moisture Control.
Oxygen. CLA and other oil fills — light barrier, suitable shell, headspace.
Light. Green tea, green coffee, and phycocyanin color — opaque pack; a clear bottle is not the retail default.
Odor / volatility. Algae, vinegar, and other odor-active ingredients can require an induction seal and suitable barrier film as part of the specification, not as a later packaging fix.
Shelf-life months follow that SKU’s stability file — 12 / 24 / 36 are not printed as a factory guarantee.

This workflow covers OEM, ODM and contract manufacturing of finished weight-management units — custom formula or an existing BOM.
1. Brief. Destination, format, hero ingredient, whether stimulants are allowed, target cost, first-order quantity.
2. Feasibility. Load, compatibility, stability, and whether the destination can sell the named actives.
3. Prototype and testing. A prototype is produced against the locked BOM; required raw-material and finished-product testing is confirmed before pilot.
4. Artwork and label review. Artwork follows the locked ingredient specification, serving size, and destination requirements.
5. Pilot → production → batch release.
Capsules often about 3,000–5,000 finished units per SKU. Tablets about 5,000–10,000. Powder / stick often from about 10,000. Softgels, gummies, and liquids after the format file is locked. Sample 7–15 days after specification lock. Mass production often 4–6 weeks after formula, artwork, testing plan, and schedule. Reorders are usually shorter than the first commercial batch. A kilogram drum quote is not a finished-unit MOQ. Actual MOQ and lead time depend on formula, dosage form, packaging, testing scope, and production schedule.
Can you manufacture an existing weight-management formula?
Yes. Send the BOM, destination, format, pack, and first-order quantity. We review the existing specification as an OEM / contract-manufacturing brief — identity, marker, method, and finished-unit assay stay on the same line as the quote.
Can you formulate a new weight-management SKU?
Yes. That is an ODM / feasibility path: hero ingredient, target serving, dosage form, and destination first. We lock fill, stimulant legality, and testing before artwork.
How do you compare two quotes for the same ingredient?
Match identity, marker or activity, method, and finished-unit assay before comparing price. Extract milligrams are not marker milligrams. Ratio is not AAIU. Salt weight is not L-carnitine. If two supplier COAs are in hand, send both and we will map them to one specification.
Can you manufacture high-load fiber, carnitine, or CLA formulas?
Yes when format follows physics. Gram-level glucomannan or carnitine usually needs extra units, powder, or liquid. CLA softgels need an oil fill. A 1,000 mg white kidney bean or 2 g carnitine serving is not a default gummy.
Can you test caffeine and slimming-product adulterants in the finished product?
Yes as scoped on the quote. Any caffeine or named alkaloid on the formula needs a finished-unit row. Slimming finished goods can add a destination-scoped adulterant panel. Incoming paperwork is not the release.
Can you manufacture GLP-1 or obesity-treatment products?
No. We manufacture weight-management / body-composition lifestyle dietary supplements. Structure/function language stays with brand-owner counsel. Obesity-treatment and GLP-1 product development stay outside default OEM scope.
