Black Ginger Supplements Manufacturing at a Glance
KS Nutripharma is a black ginger extract supplement manufacturer for OEM, ODM, and private-label programs. We will develop standardized Kaempferia parviflora (Thai black ginger) capsules, tablets, powders, and project-scoped gummies for male performance assortments, sexual-wellness-adjacent lines, and daily vitality SKUs—with a locked, project-defined marker spec (5,7-DMF and/or total PMFs), formula architecture, and COA release.
Black ginger (K. parviflora) is not culinary ginger (Zingiber officinale). Do not quote it against a gingerol spec or a digestive ginger SKU.

Dosage Forms KS Nutripharma Manufactures
Direct answers to format feasibility and delivery constraints—process risks and R&D guardrails detailed below.
Often the most straightforward first format for male-performance and men’s-wellness SKUs, including multi-ingredient stacks. Gelatin or HPMC. Enclosing the extract keeps odor and flavor off the product experience. Capsule size follows total fill (commonly 0 to 00 once stacks and bulk density are locked).
Best fit for higher-volume retail, compact servings, and cost-sensitive SKUs. Compression, hardness, and disintegration are signed off at sample. Film coating is scoped when humidity or aroma isolation is part of the brief.
→ Tablets
Best fit for daily vitality mixes, sports-adjacent blends, and formulas whose serving will not fit a capsule. Flavor, dispersion, and moisture control are part of the SKU—not afterthoughts. Instantization is used when the drink-mix brief requires it.
Feasible for lifestyle or trial SKUs, but not a first-line format for high marker-load briefs. Taste, odor, active-per-piece limits, and depositing heat need a dedicated pilot. If the piece cannot carry the target load, the sample loop decides a split serving or a capsule/tablet path.
→ Gummies

Same plant family, different species, different specs. They are not interchangeable on a PO or a label.
| Black ginger | Ginger | |
|---|---|---|
| Botanical | Kaempferia parviflora | Zingiber officinale |
| Plant part (commercial) | Rhizome | Rhizome |
| Common positioning | Men’s wellness / vitality / male-performance lines | Digestive / daily wellness |
| Analytical focus | Project-defined PMFs (often 5,7-DMF and/or total PMFs) | Gingerols / shogaols |
| Do not substitute | No | No |
The first procurement decision is which black ginger extract the finished SKU actually needs—not a generic “black ginger extract” line item.
“Black ginger extract” is not a complete specification. Lock botanical identity, plant part, extract type, project-defined marker, assay method, and serving math before comparing quotes.
Key Specification Fields to Lock
There is no single correct black ginger spec for every SKU. Lock the fields that control identity, potency math, and process behavior.
| Spec field | Specification to lock | Why it matters on the finished SKU |
|---|---|---|
| Botanical + part | Kaempferia parviflora rhizome | Leaf or stem material is a different profile. Rhizome is the commercial source. |
| Extract type | Standardized (5,7-DMF and/or total PMFs) or ratio extract | Standardized grades support a target marker contribution per serving. Ratio grades support extract-identity and serving-weight design. They are not equivalent on cost or on the label. |
| Analytical marker | Project-defined: 5,7-DMF, total PMFs, and/or another validated specification | Drives capsule fill and tablet weight. Must match the label math. |
| Assay method | HPLC or an agreed validated method | A number without a method is not comparable across lots or suppliers. |
| Extract ratio | Declared when the brief is ratio-based | A 10:1 extract is not automatically more potent than a 5:1 extract. Extract ratio describes the input-to-output relationship; marker assay determines the specified active contribution. |
| Appearance | Brown to dark-brown powder | Unexpected color change may trigger investigation of identity, processing history, moisture exposure, or lot-to-lot variation. |
| Carrier / excipients | Maltodextrin, silica, or project-specific | Changes fill weight, flow, labeling, and process behavior. |
| Moisture | Controlled to the locked spec | Affects caking, capsule/tablet behavior, and microbial risk. |
| Particle size | Matched to the intended filler or press | Wrong PSD shows up as weight variation, capping, or poor fill. |
| Microbiology | Released against agreed limits | Destination-market limits, not a generic “pass.” |
| Heavy metals | Pb, Cd, As, Hg to the locked spec | Limits follow the destination market and product category. |
| Residual solvents | Tested where the extraction path uses solvents | Traces must meet the locked ICH Q3C-aligned spec. |
| Pesticide residues | Screened as specified | Screening follows the source material, agricultural pathway, and destination-market list. |
| Identity / species lock | Identity pathway vs culinary ginger and other relevant botanicals, as scoped | Because K. parviflora is distinct from culinary ginger and other botanicals, species identity should be explicitly defined in the incoming-material specification. |
If the brief only says “black ginger extract 10%,” confirm whether that is 5,7-DMF, total PMFs, or another marker—and which method is on the COA. Standardized botanical extract pathways: Standard Extracts.
5,7-DMF vs total PMFs
The marker is project-defined. 5,7-DMF can be used as a defined HPLC marker for serving calculations; it is not the only valid specification.
| Standardization | Best for | Buyer consideration |
|---|---|---|
| 5,7-DMF | A defined single-marker spec and clearer serving math | Compare % only with the same assay method and COA |
| Total PMFs | A broader marker specification | The assay method and the PMF set must be defined; “total PMFs” is not a full botanical profile by itself |
| Non-standardized ratio | Cost-sensitive extract-identity formulas | Higher batch variability; harder to defend label consistency |
We do not publish a catalog 5,7-DMF percentage as a default grade. The % is locked to the project file.
Do not rank suppliers by extract ratio or by a percentage pulled off a brochure.
| Quote item | Do not compare by | Compare by |
|---|---|---|
| Extract ratio | 10:1 vs 20:1 | Marker assay + extraction specification |
| 5,7-DMF | Percentage alone | Assay method + actual COA |
| Total PMFs | The word “total” | Defined analytical method and marker set |
| Origin | “Thai black ginger” as a claim | Botanical identity + origin documentation as scoped |
| Price/kg | Raw-material price | Cost per target marker contribution per serving |
| Carrier | “Pure extract” language | Carrier / excipient declaration |
| COA format | Supplier-specific template | Same specification fields and methods |
For formulation costing, compare cost per target marker contribution—not extract price per kilogram alone.
Example: Supplier A at $80/kg with 10% 5,7-DMF looks cheaper than Supplier B at $105/kg with 20% 5,7-DMF if you stop at price per kilogram. Marker contribution changes the comparison. Do not treat the dollar figures as a quote—use them only to see why $/kg is the wrong ranking.
Send two competing specs on the RFQ. We map them onto the same botanical, marker, method, and serving math before quoting.
Use this sequence before comparing bottle prices.
1. Lock the extract specification
Ratio extract, 5,7-DMF-standardized extract, total-PMF-standardized extract, or another project-defined specification.
2. Set the target active contribution per serving
Extract weight per serving, or marker contribution per serving—not both left undefined.
3. Calculate extract input
Required extract amount = target marker amount ÷ marker concentration.
Example: 25 mg 5,7-DMF target ÷ 10% extract concentration = 250 mg extract per serving. That input must still fit the chosen capsule or tablet size.
4. Select the finished format
Capsule, tablet, powder/sachet, or gummy—based on dose, sensory load, and channel.
Study preparations are not a universal commercial dose. Human studies have used different K. parviflora preparations, standardization approaches, and daily amounts; those study doses should not be copied onto every SKU.
Use black ginger when the SKU needs male-performance positioning, men’s wellness, and physical vitality in one botanical—not a testosterone-booster headline.
| Application | What the SKU is for | What we do not lead with |
|---|---|---|
| Male-performance positioning | Primary botanical in a performance-oriented capsule | Disease-treatment language |
| Men’s vitality | Daily-use and active-lifestyle formulas | Copying a study dose onto every extract grade |
| 40+ men’s wellness | Daily healthy-aging sets | Testosterone-booster headlines |
Published K. parviflora studies have measured self-assessed sexual health scores and selected physical-fitness endpoints. Study sizes are limited and preparations differ. Treat that literature as formulation context, not as a finished-label claim pack. Clinical evidence.
What can go wrong after the spec is locked. Grade selection stays in the specification guide. Release tests stay in Quality Control.
| Manufacturing format | Relevant black ginger programs | Site capacity* |
|---|---|---|
| Capsules | Daily extract fills and multi-ingredient combinations | 5M+/day |
| Tablets | Compact, higher-volume commercial SKUs | 12M+/day |
| Powder/granule | Drink mixes, sachets, dry blends | 5,000+ tons/year |
| Gummies | Flavor-led pieces with a realistic active load | 2.5M+/day |
Site-level capacity figures; project allocation depends on production scheduling.
cGMP · 5 bases · 81,000+ m² · 12 lines. Blending, granulation where needed, and format-specific fill run on our processing lines. A capsule BOM is not reused as a gummy BOM.
1. Sensory load
The issue
Black ginger has a distinctive odor and flavor. Capsules enclose it. Powders and gummies put it in the product experience. A high extract input in an open format can fail sensory sign-off even when the assay is in spec.
How we run it
Flavor-system work on the powder or gummy line before artwork. Extract input per serving or per piece is capped to what the format can carry. If the brief needs a higher marker load than the format can mask, the sample loop decides split serving or a capsule/tablet path.
2. Fill weight after a grade change
The issue
A silent marker, method, or carrier swap after sample approval changes input weight and batch yield.
How we run it
Marker, method, and carrier stay locked on the BOM. Incoming lots are released against that file. A spec change is a new qualification and a new sample—not a substitution to hold a ship date.
3. Flow, compression, and moisture
The issue
Some botanical extracts cake or lose flow under elevated moisture. Catalog mesh size does not predict line behavior.
How we run it
Moisture, PSD, and the excipient system are evaluated against the intended capsule filler, tablet press, or sachet line. Granulation is used when native flow fails. Fill-weight capability is proven at sample on the commercial equipment. Format-level humidity work: Moisture Control & Stability Engineering.
4. Blend uniformity
The issue
Citrulline, beetroot, minerals, Tongkat, and maca change bulk density and particle size. A passing black ginger marker number does not prove the other assayed actives are uniform.
How we run it
Blend development on the intended line, including order of addition and in-process uniformity checks. Finished-product testing covers each assayed component on the locked spec.
5. Gummy thermal exposure
The issue
Depositing heat can darken the extract, shift flavor, and threaten marker retention.
How we run it
Gummy programs are scoped on the gummy line: active-per-piece, masking, and thermal-stability pilots before tooling. If the piece cannot carry the target load, we do not force the format.
The test plan against a locked spec—not a default “run every method on every lot.”
Raw material
Incoming extract is released against the project file before weighing:
- Identity (macroscopic / microscopic and chromatographic fingerprint as scoped)
- Species lock vs culinary ginger and other relevant botanicals as scoped
- Assay (5,7-DMF and/or total PMFs as specified)
- Moisture
- Microbiology
- Heavy metals
- Pesticides as specified
- Residual solvents where applicable
If the COA marker, method, or grade does not match the BOM, the lot is not released.
In-process
- Blend uniformity on validated processes
- Weight variation
- Compression or capsule parameters
- Moisture where relevant
Finished product
- Identity
- Assay vs the locked finished-product specification
- Microbiology
- Physical specifications (appearance, disintegration/hardness where applicable, fill)
- Stability-related testing where required
Lab: in-house release; SGS or Eurofins when the RFQ requires a third-party pack. Limits follow the approved spec and destination market. Methods: Quality Control.
Per scoped program: specification sheet · batch COA · metals · micro · identity / assay · solvent and pesticide packs as required · origin documentation as scoped.
Raw-material stability does not establish finished-product dating. When stability is scoped, the protocol is agreed before commercial artwork.
Use this literature as formulation context. What was measured is not what was proven for a commercial SKU. Position for male-performance lines, men’s wellness, and vitality—not as a testosterone booster or as a treatment for any disease.
| Study | Design/population | Preparation/dose | Duration | What was measured | What was not established | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stein et al., J Integr Med, 2018 | Open-label, one-arm; generally healthy men 50–68 y (n=14 enrolled) | 100 mg/day ethanol extract (branded preparation) | 30 days | Self-assessed sexual health questionnaire scores in that protocol | Placebo-controlled efficacy; a disease-treatment claim; transfer to other extract grades | PMID 29880257 · DOI |
| Promthep et al., Med Sci Monit Basic Res, 2015 | Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled; male soccer players (n=60) | 180 mg/day extract in capsules | 12 weeks | Selected physical-fitness tests; right-hand grip strength increased vs the study protocol | A general physical-performance claim: back-and-leg strength, sprint, and cardiorespiratory fitness were not significantly different from placebo | PMID 25957542 · DOI |
| Wannanon et al., 2012 | Healthy older men (n=45) | 25 or 90 mg/day ethanolic extract | 8 weeks | Hormone panel including testosterone, FSH, and LH | A testosterone-boosting commercial claim: those hormones did not show significant change at the doses studied | DOI |
| Nutrition Research systematic review / meta-analysis, 2024 | Pooled animal and human studies; mixed preparations | Various | Various | Pooled signals across metabolic and physical outcomes in the included literature | A finished-label claim template; evidence base remains limited | PMID 38194854 · DOI |
Study doses and branded preparations are not interchangeable with every commercial extract. Required extract amount still follows the locked marker math above.
Current human evidence does not establish K. parviflora as a clinically demonstrated testosterone-boosting ingredient. Adjacent testosterone-category SKUs are a different architecture: Testosterone Support Supplements.
Black ginger does not need to replace every other men’s-health ingredient. Its commercial role is as the primary botanical when the SKU combines male-performance positioning, men’s wellness, and physical vitality.
Ingredients | Typical positioning | Procurement difference vs black ginger |
|---|---|---|
| Black ginger | Male-performance positioning · vitality · men’s wellness | Project-defined PMF marker file; K. parviflora identity; not a nutrient |
| Tongkat Ali | Male vitality · testosterone-adjacent positioning | Different botanical, assay (eurycomanone), and regulatory posture |
| Maca | Traditional libido / vitality positioning | Different active class; often a high fill-weight companion |
| L-citrulline | Nitric oxide / circulation / exercise support | Amino acid, not botanical; commonly stacked (F02 / F03) |
| Panax ginseng | Energy / vitality | Ginsenoside marker file; daily-vitality companion (F06) |
| Zinc | Nutritional support | Mineral; label and form are a separate spec from the extract |
Select black ginger when the locked marker spec, format, and claim-safe category match the SKU—not because a competitor listed it as a testosterone booster.
Path | What you send | What we run |
|---|---|---|
| OEM | Locked BOM and specification | Manufacture to your formula after a manufacturability check |
| ODM | Brief (market, format, positioning, volume) | Formula architecture, extract spec, and production spec with our formulation team |
| Private label | Brand, pack, and a library or custom formula | Finished SKU under your brand |
| Bulk extract | Extract spec and pack form | Qualified K. parviflora extract for downstream manufacturing |
MOQ follows format, pack, formula complexity, and whether the run is a sample, pilot, or commercial SKU. Do not use one number for bulk extract and finished supplements.
Lead time
Indicative. Confirmed after formula, availability, pack, and testing are reviewed.
| Project stage | Typical timeline |
|---|---|
| Formula discussion | Project dependent |
| Sample development | 7–15 days* |
| Pilot production | 15–25 days* |
| Mass production | 30–45 days* |
Library formulas (F01–F06) or an equivalent locked BOM, with in-stock inputs and specified pack, quote faster than a new flavored gummy.
MOQ by scope
| Scope | Typical start | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Bulk black ginger extract | Project-dependent (grade and lot size) | Spec, assay, and pack form locked |
| Capsules | ~3,000–5,000 units | Capsule size, fill weight, pack, sourcing |
| Tablets | ~5,000–10,000 units | Compression signed off at sample |
| Powder (bulk vs retail) | Quoted by kg for bulk powder, or by finished units for retail packs | Do not use one number for ingredient powder and finished tubs or sticks |
| Stick / sachet | Often from ~10,000 units | Film, fill, moisture |
| Gummies | ~5,000–10,000 units | Dose must fit the piece |
Actual MOQ and lead time depend on formula complexity, packaging, testing requirements, and production schedule.
Packaging
HDPE / PET bottles with induction seals · blisters · foil bags · stick multipacks · retail cartons · export master cases · desiccant and tamper-evident finishes as scoped. Pack type is part of moisture and dating control, not a late artwork decision.
