Choose Your Starting Point
Most maca projects fit one of six paths. Find yours, and you have a recommended specification, a format, a typical timeline and the list of what to send us.
| You are | Start with | Format | What to Send us |
| Launching a first maca product on Amazon or DTC | Single-ingredient maca, or maca plus one companion; black or yellow extract 10:1 | Veggie or hard capsules | Target serving, capsule count, label draft, target cost per serving |
| Switching supplier or fixing reorder consistency | Your current specification, reviewed and locked in a written BOM (grade, ratio, color, origin) | Same format as today | Current spec, last COA, label, and the quality issue you want solved |
| Selling in value retail or pharmacy | Conventional yellow maca 4:1 | Tablets or hard capsules, 90 to 180 count | Retailer brief, count, target cost |
| Selling daily nutrition or sports powder | Gelatinized maca powder, with or without an extract blend | Powder, stick packs, canisters | Serving weight, flavor direction, pack type |
| Building a premium clean-label line | Organic maca powder or organic extract; certification confirmed per project | Veggie capsules | Target market, planned organic claim, certifier requirements |
| Buying maca as an ingredient only | Raw powder, gelatinized powder or extract by the kilogram | Bulk | Grade, quantity in kg, origin preference, documents needed |
Not sure which row fits? Send your sales channel and target cost per serving, and our team recommends a starting specification.
Maca Formats, MOQ and Lead Time
Capsules are the easiest first format for maca. Gummies, softgels and liquids need their own feasibility work and samples, so do not treat them as automatic conversions of a capsule formula.
Format | Best for | Typical MOQ | Typical lead time | Check before approval |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capsules | Hero products, private label, multi-ingredient stacks | About 5,000 bottles | 4 to 8 weeks | Does the full blend fit the capsule size and the capsule count per serving? |
| Tablets | Value retail, pharmacy-style products, high-count bottles | About 5,000 to 10,000 bottles | 4 to 8 weeks | Can the blend meet compression, tablet size and disintegration needs? |
| Softgels | Oil-based companions such as CoQ10 or vitamin D3, twin packs with capsules | About 10,000 bottles | 5 to 8 weeks | Maca usually stays in a capsule twin; the softgel carries the oil-phase ingredients |
| Gummies | Lifestyle launches and short formulas | About 10,000 bottles | 6 to 8 weeks | How much maca fits a realistic gummy count while meeting taste, texture and stability goals? |
| Powders and stick packs | Daily nutrition, sports and drink mixes | About 500 kg or 10,000 sticks | 5 to 8 weeks | Serving weight, taste, dispersion, moisture control and seal integrity |
| Liquids and shots | Shots and drops | Project-based | 5 to 8 weeks after formula lock | Dispersion, sedimentation, preservation and shelf life |
MOQ and lead time are typical starting points, confirmed in your quotation. The quotation also states what the lead time includes, such as testing and shipping.

Maca Formula Directions
These are reference formulas to start the conversation, not fixed bills of materials. We adjust dose, format, grade, color and companions to your market, and develop exclusive stacks under NDA.
| Concept | Typical stack | Maca grade | Formats | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single-ingredient maca | Maca extract only | 10:1 or 20:1 | Veggie or hard capsules, tablets | Simplest label and the easiest first product for a new brand |
| Maca and tongkat ali | Maca extract plus tongkat ali | 10:1 | Capsules | State both amounts; watch fill weight |
| Men’s wellness stack | Black maca plus tongkat ali, zinc and tribulus | 10:1, or 20:1 for a smaller serving | Capsules | Add fenugreek or saw palmetto, or pair maca with horny goat weed |
| Maca and ashwagandha | Maca plus ashwagandha | 4:1 or 10:1 | Capsules, short-stack gummies | Day and night twin products; add L-theanine or magnesium for the evening version |
| Women’s wellness stack | Red maca plus vitex, evening primrose and vitamin B6 | 4:1 or 10:1 | Capsules; softgels when oil companions dominate | Soften or expand the stack to suit the market |
| Daytime formula | Maca plus rhodiola, CoQ10 and B-complex | 10:1 | Capsules, stick packs | CoQ10 can move to a softgel twin to protect fill weight |
| Sports stack | Gelatinized maca plus beet root, citrulline and creatine | Gelatinized powder or extract blend | Powders, stick packs | High-dose companions favor powder; pair a daily capsule with a training-day powder |
| Organic clean-label | Organic maca powder or extract | Organic yellow or mixed | Veggie or hard capsules | Organic certification confirmed per project |
| High-count value | Yellow maca | 4:1 | Tablets, hard capsules, 90 to 180 count | Count, coating and bottle cost set by the retailer brief |
Common companions include tongkat ali, epimedium, tribulus, ashwagandha, rhodiola, saffron, L-theanine, citrulline, beet root, magnesium bisglycinate, zinc, B vitamins and CoQ10. Keep stacks short: every extra ingredient takes fill weight and makes the Supplement Facts harder to read.
Differentiation ideas we can develop with you:
- Marker-disclosed maca: a standardized extract with macamides stated on the label, instead of a hidden proprietary blend.
- Sugar-free pectin gummy: a short-stack maca gummy with an honest amount per serving, paired with a capsule twin.
- Organic black maca capsule: a combination that is still less crowded on shelf.
- Evening formula: maca with magnesium bisglycinate and ashwagandha, with or without L-theanine, and no melatonin.
- High-potency travel size: a 20:1 capsule for a smaller serving.
Claims on every concept are reviewed for the destination market before artwork is approved. Need a formula in the reproductive-health area? Ask us, and we review it market by market.
Pick the ingredient by the serving you want and the format it must fit. Extract suits compact capsules and stacks, powder suits drinks and low-cost lines, and gelatinized powder suits powders for sensitive stomachs.
| Ingredient | Choose when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Raw maca powder | Cost-sensitive powders, sachets and bulk blends | Larger fill weight and a stronger earthy taste |
| Gelatinized maca powder | Drink mixes, stick packs and powders aimed at easier digestion | Still a larger serving than an extract |
| Extract (4:1, 10:1, 20:1) | Capsules, tablets, multi-ingredient stacks and smaller servings | Higher cost as the ratio rises; carriers and ratio basis must be specified |
| Higher-ratio extract (30:1, 50:1) | Specialty concentrated concepts for qualified projects | The label math and budget must justify it |
Which extract ratio?
| Ratio | Typical role | Usual starting point |
|---|---|---|
| 4:1 | Broad private label and value retail | Balanced cost, tablets and capsules |
| 10:1 | Our most requested finished-goods grade | Amazon and DTC capsules and stacks |
| 20:1 | Smaller servings and more room for companion ingredients | Differentiated, higher-potency listings |
A ratio describes how much starting root went into the extract. It does not measure marker content or effect, so do not present 20:1 as twice as effective as 10:1. Compare grades on the full specification: ratio basis, carriers, marker results and your serving.
Ask every supplier whether the ratio refers to the native extract or to a commercial preparation with carriers added. For example, 200 mg of an ingredient that is 70% native 10:1 extract and 30% carrier holds 140 mg of native extract, which corresponds to 1,400 mg of starting root, not 2,000 mg. The example shows the arithmetic only; it is not a dose recommendation or a label claim.
Color and standardization
Yellow, black, red and mixed maca are sourcing choices. We specify a color only when the supply documentation supports it, and we do not tie a color to a health claim. If you need a marker such as macamides or glucosinolates, ask for the named compound, the numerical specification, the test method and the reporting basis. Total saponins and other markers are available on request after R&D review.
Every commercial lot comes with a batch COA, and we agree the testing plan with you before production starts. Third-party testing and extra market requirements are added by project scope.
Test | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Identity | Botanical authentication |
| Marker pathway | Standardization support, scoped per project |
| Heavy metals | Safety compliance |
| Microbiology | Ingredient and finished-product safety |
| Pesticides | Regulatory readiness |
| Moisture | Product stability |
| Dissolution or disintegration | Finished capsules and tablets, where applicable |
| Stability | Accelerated, with or without real-time, scoped per project |
| Retention samples | Reorder and investigation support |
Stage | Documents you receive |
|---|---|
| Before you order | Specification sheet, sample COA, TDS and SDS |
| During production | Packaging specifications, metals and microbiology reports |
| At release and shipment | Batch COA, release package, export support documents |
An ingredient COA covers the maca lot we buy in. The finished-product release covers your bottles. We link the two through lot codes, so ask for both.
When you read any maca COA, check five things:
- The botanical name and plant part (Lepidium meyenii, root).
- For an extract, the ratio basis and the carrier.
- Any marker result, with its test method and reporting basis.
- Heavy metals and microbiology, with limits and units.
- The lot number, date and document revision.
See our guide on how to read a COA and our quality control and certifications pages.
Many common maca complaints start with formula decisions rather than advertising. This is how we handle seven of them.
| Problem | What it usually signals | How we prevent it |
|---|---|---|
| Reorders feel different | Unlocked grade, origin drift, weak change control | Grade lock, written approval for any change, retention samples |
| “Nothing happened” reviews | Under-dosed proprietary blend or an unclear serving | Disclosed maca amount and ratio; optional marker specification |
| Stomach discomfort on powders | Raw starch load poorly matched to the format | Gelatinized powder, or a capsule option for sensitive buyers |
| Taste and odor complaints | Earthy flavor left unmanaged in drinks and sticks | Flavor system, mesh control, or a switch to capsules |
| Color confusion (black, yellow, red) | Label story that does not match the bill of materials | Color-selected sourcing locked in the BOM |
| Freshness and seal issues | Moisture or packaging weakness | Packaging specification, desiccant or induction seal options, shelf-life scoping |
| Claim pushback | Overstated language on pack or listing | Documentation pack, artwork review, market-specific claim caution |
Five design rules we apply to every maca project:
- Lock the grade before you scale advertising. Ratio, color and organic pathway stay fixed after pilot approval.
- Match the form to the buyer. Use gelatinized powder or capsules when taste or digestion is a risk.
- Disclose the strength. State the maca amount and ratio rather than hiding it in a blend.
- Keep the stack short unless the channel needs a complex one, to protect fill weight, cost and label clarity.
- Pilot first. Test taste and packaging before mass production of powders, sticks and gummies.
Eight factors drive the price of a maca supplement, and the fastest way to compare offers is to quote one formula and one pack configuration.
| Cost driver | How it moves the price | Decide early |
|---|---|---|
| Extract ratio | Higher ratios cost more per kilogram of ingredient | Compare cost per serving, not cost per kilogram |
| Ingredient form and grade | Extract, gelatinized powder and raw powder, organic or conventional, and marker testing all price differently | Which form and grade your serving needs |
| Serving size and capsule count | More milligrams and more capsules per serving raise the cost per bottle | Daily serving and servings per bottle |
| Companion ingredients | Each one adds ingredient cost and fill weight | The shortest stack that meets your brief |
| Dosage form | Gummies and softgels carry higher MOQs and more development work than capsules | Whether to launch in capsules first |
| Packaging | Bottle, closure, label, secondary carton and FBA packing | Pack type and unit count |
| Testing and documents | Third-party reports, stability studies and export documents | What you need, and who pays for it |
| Order quantity | Larger batches usually lower the unit price | Pilot size versus first commercial order |
When you compare quotations, check the unit price together with the cost per serving and what the quote includes. Confirm sample fees, tooling and testing charges, because one-time costs are often quoted separately. Send a complete brief and we return a unit-cost range with your MOQ and lead time.
A typical project runs through eight steps, with a dedicated project manager from the first brief to shipment.
- Send your brief: dose, format, market, volume and packaging preference. You get an intake confirmation.
- Requirement review: sales and R&D check feasibility and send clarifying questions.
- Formula recommendation: ratio, stack, fill weight and format options, as a recommended BOM direction.
- Quotation: pricing, MOQ, lead time and milestones, targeted within 48 hours of a complete brief.
- Sample and COA: samples usually 7 to 21 days after formula lock, with a sample COA and supporting reports.
- Artwork and pilot: artwork checkpoints before production, then a pilot batch to validate formula and packaging.
- Production and release: manufacturing under the locked BOM in 4 to 8 weeks after formula and artwork lock, then finished-product testing, QA release and a batch COA.
- Shipment and reorder: export packing and documents, then reorders against the same locked specification and retention samples.
An NDA is available within 24 hours on request, at any step. For reorders, any change to the maca supplier, origin, ratio basis, carrier, marker specification, process or packaging needs your written approval and a comparability review before it is used.
You also get a weekly status update on samples, artwork, production and ship window, an online QC meeting to review COA and release questions, and a remote video factory audit for qualified projects.

Brands usually come to us for four reasons:
- Documentation: incoming and finished assay pathways scoped to the project.
- Faster pilots: a clear sample path, often 7 to 21 days after formula lock.
- Stable raw materials: grade lock, a dual-source approach and change control.
- Workable MOQ: pilot-friendly starts, then commercial scale for reorders.
See manufacturing capacity, our global raw material supply network and our R&D center for more detail.
Who we fit, and who we do not
We are a good fit for supplement brands seeking OEM, ODM or private label manufacturing, procurement and R&D teams that need documented quality systems, and Amazon, iHerb or retail programs launching maca products.
We are probably not the right partner if you want consumer-sized retail purchases or one-off personal orders, need products outside dietary supplement regulations, or expect a manufacturer to provide legal approval, licensing or claim authorization for your market.
Can I get a sample before I order?
Yes. Samples usually follow 7 to 21 days after formula lock. Tell us the purpose (ingredient comparison, formula review, taste or a packaged product) and we confirm the sample type, quantity and charges in the quotation.
What is your MOQ for maca supplements?
Capsules start at about 5,000 bottles, tablets at about 5,000 to 10,000, softgels and gummies at about 10,000, and powders at about 500 kg or 10,000 sticks. Liquids are project-based. State the MOQ with the pack count, for example 5,000 bottles of 60 capsules.
Can I run a pilot below the MOQ?
Often, for capsules: pilot runs of about 3,000 to 5,000 units are common. We confirm per project what the pilot validates and what still needs review at commercial scale.
How long does production take?
Typically 4 to 8 weeks after formula and artwork lock; gummies run 6 to 8 weeks. The quotation lists what the lead time includes.
Is 20:1 maca extract better than 10:1?
Not automatically. A higher ratio means more starting root per unit of extract, not proven higher strength. Compare the ratio basis, carriers, marker results and your serving.
Can you make organic maca products?
Yes, organic ingredient options are available. Whether the finished product can carry an organic claim depends on certification across the whole supply and manufacturing route, which we confirm per project and per market.
Can you supply maca as an ingredient only?
Yes. We supply bulk powder and extract when you do not need finished goods. State “ingredient only” in your enquiry and give the grade, quantity in kilograms and the documents you need.
Can a raw material COA replace finished-product documents?
No. The ingredient COA covers the maca lot, and the finished-product release covers your bottles. We link the two by lot code, and you can request both.
